Heart Arrhythmia

An arrhythmia is a problem with the heart's rhythm. The heart rate can be fast, slow, or irregular. An arrhythmia can occur at any age. If someone in your family had an arrhythmia, it is more likely that your child might too. Sometimes arrhythmias happen in a structurally normal heart, and sometimes they are a symptom of a heart abnormality. Sometimes they can be caused by an external factor, like a drug a child is taking or stress. You and your child may not notice anything unusual about her heart rhythm. Arrhythmias may be discovered during a usual check-up. Your child may need an electrocardiogram, which is a test that shows the electrical activity in the heart. |
