The Advanced Protein Technology Centre (APTC) of The Hospital for Sick Children provides subsidized protein analysis services to the Canadian research community on a cost recovery basis. The centre operated for over 20 years at the University of Toronto and currently resides in the Molecular Structure & Function research program within The Hospital for Sick Children’s Research Institute.
With the sequencing of the human genome complete, the study of gene products, or proteins, is tantamount to understanding and improving human health. The APTC has a mandate to provide tools and consistent high quality services to allow Canadian researchers to competitively conduct protein biochemical research. As a member of the Ontario Wide Protein Identification facility, the APTC is dedicated to building an armamentarium of novel biochemical research tools and committed to teaching enabling techniques to researchers in a broad range of disciplines.
Dr. Michael Moran is a senior scientist in the Molecular Structure & Function research program at SickKids and director of the centre.
