Molecular Structure & Function
Head: Dr. Lynne Howell
The Molecular Structure & Function program focuses on understanding the relationships between the molecular structure and biological function of proteins and other macromolecules. The understanding we gain about the molecular basis of both normal biological processes and how they go awry in human disease is then applied to the development of novel strategies for the diagnosis and treatment of paediatric disease.
Program members currently work on a diverse set of diseases, including:
- Cystic Fibrosis
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Cancer
- Diabetes
- Congenital Muscular Dystrophy
- Various genetic/metabolic diseases
- Bacterial, viral and parasitic infections
- Heart and stroke
