Functional Neuroimaging Centre

The Functional Neuroimaging Centre (FNC) affiliated with the Neurosciences and Mental Health Research Program at The Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute acts as a hub for functional neuroimaging work at SickKids. The FNC brings together scientists, clinicians, physicists and engineers who utilize and develop quantitative/functional neuroimaging technologies including:

  • Magnetoencephalography (MEG)
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  • Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI)
    Scanner
  • Electroencephalographic measures (EEG, ERP)

SickKids is one of the few paediatric facilities in the world with an MEG and a dedicated research MRI. The vision of the FNC is to be a leader and innovator in the field of paediatric functional neuroimaging. Our mission is to creatively integrate multi-disciplinary research aimed at answering basic science and applied clinical questions about typical and atypical brain and cognitive development. Our goal is translate these findings into technologies and a knowledge base that will improve the quality of care provided by SickKids and positively impact the quality of life for children. The FNC at SickKids serves as a resource, training, and mentoring centre for clinical specialists, neuroscientists, imaging technologists, medical trainees and graduate students in the local and international scientific community.
