Comparative Effectiveness of Interventions for Preschoolers with ADHD or Disruptive Behavior

Objectives:
- To describe the GRADE approach to evaluating Strength of Evidence for the purpose of comparing effectiveness of interventions
- To share an example of a Comparative Effectiveness Review from the U.S. Agency for Healthcare, Research and Quality (AHRQ) regarding interventions for preschool children with disruptive behavior, including ADHD. This research provided the evidence for some of the changes in the guidelines for treatment of ADHD released by the American Academy of Pediatrics in October 2011.

Dr. Alice Charach is an Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto, and Associate Scientist in the Child Health Evaluative Sciences Program, Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute. She leads the Neuropsychiatry Team, Department of Psychiatry, at SickKids, which specializes in assessment and treatment of children and youth with attention, learning and behavior difficulties.
Her research interests focus on long-term outcomes for young children with ADHD, and treatment adherence in children and teens with ADHD.

Education Day – A Tribute to the Career of Dr. Susan Tallett

Please join us for a special education event to honour Dr. Susan Tallett, Chief of Education, and to celebrate her retirement after almost 40 years at the Hospital for Sick Children. Dr. Tallett joined the Department of Paediatrics in 1976. In 1991, Dr. Tallett was appointed Associate Chair, Education, and Director of the Core Paediatric Program. In October 2006, she accepted the position as Director of the newly formed SickKids Learning Institute and transitioned to the role of Chief of Education. Dr. Tallett is recognized as one of SickKids’ most enthusiastic proponents of teaching and learning. She is as an advocate for education, mentoring and supporting countless students and staff.
